HISTORY

TEN YEARS OF RIKSGRÄNSEN BANKED SLALOM

OUR STORY

The ambition with the Riksgränsen Banked Slalom is to celebrate and enjoy snowboarding in its purest form. We do it where several chapters of snowboarding's most prominent history has been written. Even though everyone competes against each other the scream’s of stoke and warm smiles fill the air around the competition. There’s no sour faces or bad mouthing just a collective high that fuels the event in sun, rain or snow fall.

The course is located under the main chair lift in the resort which gives you a great view over all the turns. The motivation to race is high. In addition to the competition we present different snowboard related activites all linked to Riksgränsen and it’s snowboarding history.

We bring generations of snowboarders together in a unique way in a spectacular location. For some it’s their first time back since they were kids in the 90’s, others bring their kids to experience the light and the atmosphere with them, but most of us see this as something that speaks to their soul as snowboarders. The Riksgränsen Banked Slalom is a melting pot for Scandinavian snowboarding where we create new visions and resurrect old legends.

We move forward to our ninth year with a goal to make our guests visit better, grow the event with care and make sure that that the stoke ‘o meter for snowboarding is in the top. And at last, please respect that we might have to work with rules and regulations from the Swedish government. We’re all trying to make this work, so be respectful, be patience and remember to have fun!

Join us and come along for the ride!

OUR STORY

Riksgränsen Banked Slalom became an instant classic already after it’s first year. 2013 we had 60 dedicated snowboarders competing in what some would define as “the art of turning” No jumps, no spins, no rails, just a you, your board and your ability to carve and to keep the speed through a course with 22 banked curves. Year two, 2014 we had 151 people competing from 7 different nations with the aged between 9-57. Year three we had over 250 and since then we’ve had around 300 riders competing in the course and many more that watch the event from the sidelines. 2018, 120 of them were female and we are very proud to have taken our event in that direction. Our biggest growth is juniors/kids and women and in 2019 we had even more women and juniors competing.  The last years we’ve seen an evolution of new boards dedicated to turning and more clips of ”carve tricks” emerge in the social media feeds. Snowboarding is reclaiming the carve and taking all snowboarders with them Riksgränsen Banked Slalom is a part of that movement and each year we try to embrace the snowboarding spirit and connect the past with the future.
